Chinese Chinquapin (castanea henryi) seedlings. These trees are a close relative of chinese chestnut but are smaller in size - often called dwarf chestnuts. They are perfect for people with small backyards or just enough space to squeeze a tree in. Chinquapins are known for having exceptionally sweet, small nuts with one per burr (sometimes two or three). Unlike the chestnut, chinquapin nuts are cylindrical and the leaves are hairy on chinquapins. Bare root trees at 15”-30.” Grows best in USDA hardiness zones 5-9.
